Website widget
Updated August 19, 20261 min read
The widget is a floating chat button on your website. Depending on what you turn on, it opens either a conversation right in the browser, buttons that jump into a messenger, or a form to collect contact details.
Installing it
- Open Channels → Add channel → Website widget.
- Set up the look (color, greeting text, position on screen) in the widget builder.
- Copy the generated code and paste it before the closing
</body>tag on every page of your site where the widget should appear.
The widget starts working as soon as the code goes live — no separate confirmation from Chato is needed.
What the widget can do
- Channel buttons — direct links to WhatsApp, Telegram, or a call, bypassing the browser chat.
- Online chat — a conversation right on the site, which lands in the shared Chats window just like any other channel.
- Lead form — if a visitor doesn't want to write right away, they can leave a name and phone number.
- The domain the widget is installed on is detected automatically — Chato reads it from the script itself and shows it in the channel list, nothing to enter manually.
One widget can be installed on up to 3 domains (for example, your main site and a landing page for ads). Add a domain in the widget's settings, without creating a new channel.
A chat from your site in your CRM
Like any channel, a conversation from the widget has a contact — if you have a CRM connected, it's created or matched by phone number/name automatically, with no manual linking needed.
