Team roles and access
Roles in a workspace
- Owner — one per workspace, usually whoever registered the company. Full access, including billing and deleting the account.
- Admin — full access to channels, chats, and the team, except deleting the workspace itself.
- Manager — access to chats and connected channels, without account settings, billing, or team management.
The role is set when you invite someone, and it can be changed later.
Inviting an employee
- Open Settings → Team → Invite.
- Enter the employee's email and pick a role.
- The employee gets an email with a link — once they register, they land in your workspace with the role already assigned.
Start new employees on the "Manager" role if you're unsure — you can promote them to admin any time, but it's better not to hand out billing access by accident up front.
CRM access is separate from your Chato role
If your workspace has a CRM connected (amoCRM or Bitrix24), access to the messaging widget inside the CRM is configured separately from an employee's role in Chato — an employee can have "No access," "Chat only," or "Admin" specifically for the CRM widget, regardless of their role in Chato itself. More in the amoCRM and Bitrix24 articles.
Who sees which conversations
By default, every role sees every conversation across every channel in the workspace — Chato doesn't restrict visibility by role. The distinction comes through assigning an owner (see Working in one shared inbox): the conversation stays available to the whole team, it's just primarily handled by whoever it's assigned to.
