Connecting business email

Updated September 27, 20262 min read

Email connects like any other channel: every incoming email becomes a conversation in the shared Chats inbox, next to WhatsApp and Telegram. Replies in one thread stay one conversation, attachments open and download right in Chato, and your reply goes out from the connected mailbox's address. One mailbox is one channel at 9,000 ₸ a month, with no limit on emails or dialogs; the first 3 days are free.

Gmail and Outlook

  1. Open Channels → Add channel → Corporate email.
  2. Click Gmail (also for Google Workspace) or Outlook (also for Microsoft 365).
  3. Sign in to the account and allow Chato to access the mailbox.

No password or server settings are needed — sign-in happens on Google's or Microsoft's side.

Other email over IMAP/SMTP

Works for Yandex 360, Mail.ru, hosting mail and any other mailbox.

  1. Open Channels → Add channel → Corporate email → Other mailbox (IMAP).
  2. Pick your email service from the list — servers and ports are filled in automatically. If your service isn't listed, choose Other and enter the IMAP and SMTP servers from your email provider's help pages.
  3. Enter the email address and password. If the login differs from the address, turn on Login differs from the email address.
  4. Click Connect mailbox.

Gmail, Yandex and Mail.ru don't accept the regular password from third-party apps — you need an app password. Create one in your mailbox's security settings ("App passwords") and enter it in Chato instead of the regular password. For Gmail it's easier to sign in with Google — then no app password is needed.

If emails stop arriving

If the mailbox changed its password or revoked access, the channel card (Settings → Channels → this channel) shows a connection message. Sign in again with Google or Microsoft, or enter a new app password — the email history is kept.
